Finance Professional 3 Health Policy and Management
The Division of Health Policy and Management (HPM) in the School of Public Health is seeiking a Finance Professional 3 - Finance Generalist to provide financial accounting support for both sponsored and non-sponsored accounts. This position will work with both the Grants/Contracts Professionals with research accounting support and with the Division Finance Manager to provide nonsponsored financial tracking and reporting, budget processes, and accounting for departmental accounts, foundation accounts, and other division resources. The position will provide expertise to faculty and other stakeholders. Strong communication skills, and capacity to work both independently and as part of a team are important attributes.

Sponsored Projects Accounting (50%)
• Prepare regular and ad hoc, as well as monthly and annual reconciliation reports of projects for assigned principal investigators.
• Coordinate with grants and contracts professionals to facilitate meetings with principal investigators as necessary/requested to discuss award status and advise on related accounting matters.
• Process necessary distribution changes, cost transfers and other corrections in a timely fashion.
• Coordinate effort certification for assigned faculty, other researchers, grants, and contracts.
• Coordinate with Sponsored Financial Reporting on invoicing tasks, and ensure that research grants are properly closed out.
Division Accounting (50%)
• Partner with Finance Manager on financial tracking and reporting, as well as with the budget process, including conducting analyses and running projections for departmental accounts, foundation accounts, and other division resources.
• Under the direction of the departmental finance manager, work closely with faculty, staff, and departmental administration in creating and maintaining current systems that meet the needs of projecting, monitoring, reconciling, and reporting purposes.
• Project forecast and consult with faculty/staff to determine available funds to meet their needs.
• Ensure all transactions are in compliance with University or Sponsored policies, adequate funding is available, and management is advised of issues.
• Download biweekly transaction data and enable access to the data by other members of the finance, admin, and grant accounting teams.
• Develop necessary relationships with collegiate and university staff to ensure knowledge and skill base is current with university, collegiate, and departmental expectations.
• Partner with Financial Manager to monitor foundation accounts and student scholarship awards.
Work Arrangements: Flexible Start and End times
Hybrid option with a minimum of 3 days in the office during core business hours
Budgeted Salary Range
$65-85K annually, depending on the candidate's total relevant education and experience

• BA/BS plus at least four years of professional work experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight years.
• In-depth knowledge of sponsored project protocols, reporting, effort certification, etc.
• Experience with computerized accounting and payroll systems to include reporting and transaction approval.
• Demonstrated multicultural awareness and commitment to equal opportunity and access/Proven commitment to diversity and equity (adding a criteria along these lines would be good).
• Advanced competence with Microsoft Excel and reporting; must have experience creating and manipulating spreadsheet data, e.g., pivot tables.
• BA/BS with major in accounting, finance or business administration.
• Experience and knowledge of University of Minnesota policies, business procedures, and systems, including PeopleSoft (EFS, HRMS), Effort Certification System
• Effort Certification Reporting Technology System (ECRT), and Electronic Grants Management System (EGMS).
• Experience with grant accounting and professional experience with complex reporting, projections, effort certification, and transaction approval for grants.
• Experience managing finances to include forecasting, analysis, budgeting and complex reporting.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong service orientation.
• Able to handle multiple, complex tasks, attend to details, be a self-starter and work independently, prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
